the "Q" factor!

this is a classic example of high level political bureaucracy..its a curse wich is so widespread in our political circles tht it refuses to go n has evn toppled governments at the topmost level. This case has been goin on for d last 20 yrs n it refuses to end. It's all about finding the middle man (rather men) who were a beneficiary in the bofors pay off which amounted to almost 64CR INR exchanging hands.(it may seem 2 b a peanut amount in thes days considerin the huge scams wich happen so frequently , bt d fact stil remains!)..the irony of the entire case , handled by the CBI , is tht the scam amounted to 64CR rupees but our "brilliant ,efficient n effective" agency has spent close to 250 CR ruppes "trying" to solve the case but as usual , being unsuccessful!..Should'nt we hav a seperate inquiry into hw did the CBI so efficiently manange to spend this amount(4 times the actual scam amt) without any results? But alas, in this country the onli thing tht sell are SRK , sex and enquiry commissions!



One might argue tht scams happen evry now n then but y does this scam hav much of importance?..It is juss beacuase it led to the downfall of a prime minister n created quite a stir in the country!



Let me giv u a lil' background of d bofors scam..In the mid 80's ther was dis arms n ammunitions supplier company called Bofors Inc. It was a swedish based company which was very well known in the political circles of this country wich was then ruled by the gandhi family(Indira , Rajiv n our very own Sonia Gandhi). Our country was in the midst of developing its own defence n missile system as a result of which it had to acquire arms. Our government thus placed a deal with dis company to acquire some howitzer's guns.



After the delivery of goods , Swedish radio broke out the news tht a huge sum of money was deliverd to the Indian government n a mid man(for commissions) , say Mr X. After such an announcement arrives , the first thing tht ne government would do is to setup an enquiry commission. But since the then PM Mr Rajiv Gandhi was involved , it led to his ouster. I have my complete respect for Rajiv Gandhi evn today coz the way he's single handedly changed the fortunes of this country , no one can ever b able 2 do it!I can even vouch for the fact tht if he was alive tday, our country would once agn b called "Sone ki chidiya". But then , corruption is in our blood. As a result Rajiv Gandhi resigned n v had hs successor Mr VP. Singh , who ironically is one of the most useless PM's of our country(as said by my dad!!).He had promised the ppl(short minded public of our country) tht if the Bofors payoff case wuldnt b solved in 30 days he would resign. Now , expecting a high level bureaucratic scam to b solved in 30 days is lik expecting to find water in an arid desert. As a result , he was ousted in 30 days but he did lay the seeds for one of the most talked about topics tday - RESERVATION. Thus , dis case not onli brought a lot of disgrace to our country(its still bringin disgrace) but also led to a humiliated removal of two of our country's prime minister's.



This case is still not ovr. Our investigation agency is still finding out who ate up all the money n who is responsible for this facade. It has been going on for 20 yrs n im sure it would go on for another 20 yrs!So , hopefully our kids will also be able to write n discuss on this topic. Btw , if u hav ne details on dis case then plz hlp d CBI , which has bcum so useless , tht even aftr spendin so much time n money , everythn remains inconclusive. Atleast a part of the 250 CR RS spent in solvin the case cud hav been used to improve roads n other civic amenities in the country or evn cud hav been used to find a cure 4 aids.But , as usual , the attitude is "who cares"!
